Don, I love such targeted and narrowly defined questions.....sorry just kidding...that is completely tongue in cheek. You make a great point. IMO this stuff is all over the map and moving at a very fast speed. It is a subject that I am just starting to look at myself. I think that each item you mentioned is worthy of a huge discussion. Now, I'm not making a plug for anything but I think looking at what certain vendors are doing and what their products offer can provide some insight. We are looking at products like Cyclone, Connect for iSeries, TrailBlazer, etc. So, if you want to see what the AS/400 can do, these may give you some insight. I think the AS/400 plays well in this area however there are some exceptions. There are vendors that are deploying bolt-on type of applications to traditional back-end systems. They do B2B, they do EAI, they do it all, etc. Companies like ModelN, Web Methods (?), Sterling Commerce, etc. (again no plug) have these new and wonderful B2B products. Most of these specifically run on the NT or Unix platform. These companies are making a big splash. Whether it turns out to be a good move or not......It would be nice to see these type of products support the AS/400. Anyway, that is my thoughts put into as an abbreviated form as possible....
