They doing the CPYSPLF >with *PRTCTL, instead of *FCFC Bob i see what you are thinking but its not specifically anything to do with the CPYSPLF process. Its all to do with the fact that the spool data is held differently on the as400 depending on the source. An external printer file spool (AFAIK) holds its data at field level for each line wheras the copy I made (using CPYSPLF) only had 1 field per record. They looked the same on screen but printed differently.
