Dear Mark, I asked IBM this question a number of months ago and I received the following response. 1. My Question - What do you think would be the most appropriate way to write the spool file data to a database file so that I can FTP the file off of the AS/400? Answer - The only supported method would be to use the API QSPGETSP (QSPOPNSP first) to read the data (suggest format 0300) into a user space. Then from the user space, write the data into a DB file or IFS file that can be FTP'd or accessed directly via shares or shared folders. 2. A supplementary concern can be when your *AFPDS spool file includes objects such as overlays or page segments. In order to view your spool file correctly on the PC, you will also need to transfer these objects to the PC as well. IBM offered me a suggestion on how this might be accomplished. Suggestion - There is an API QGSCPYRS that will copy the specified resource into the user space specified. The documentation for the API can be found under the InfoCenter (http://as400bks.rochester.ibm.com/. The trick here is that you will then need to get the resource from the user space into some sort of file to ftp to the PC, or the PC could access the file directly via shares or shared folders.
