This probably isn't really to the point, but domain validation is a relatively small piece of the puzzle. I think the gethostbyname API might do this for you. InfoCenter has some good documentation. There may also be a way to use nslookup in batch. It might be easier to see what bounces. I never got as far as looking for MX records when I was trying to do something in the same vein, because a large number of the e-mails I had to work with were typed in by customers in a free form text field. A lot of the questionable e-mails had perfectly OK domain names like "aol.com". After stripping out embedded spaces and improbable characters like '<' you may have a nice looking e-mail address that just doesn't belong to anyone.
