CPYF will create a copy of the object and member, but will issue a message that no records existed in the originating file. The message number escapes me at the moment, but a MONMSG could be used to avoid a program crash. It seems to me this method would be preferable to the save and restore, at least in terms of complexity, if not in system resource. Donald R. The workaround was to save the file from QTEMP into a save file stored in xxxO. Then when you want the layout you do a RSTOBJ versus a CRTDUPOBJ. The beauty of this is that if you've a bunch of logical files then all related elements can be in the same save file. <clip>
