Which mainframe tools ??? Many similar functions are available on the 400 and in some cases, "better tools"... The file description contains a good bit of information on access and how "many" accesses occurred, but with many different paths(LF's), it might be tough to figure out "which" path was used. Performance tools also has a ton of information that can be gathered about any particular job. Performance of one particular job might not indicate a problem with that job but rather a "system wide" problem that causes the job in question to perform poorly. You can check interactive performance and file access "real time" by looking at the job while it is running....(wrkjob) and then look at "open files" option which will tell you how many reads have occurred up to that point. This will also tell you "which" file access path is being used. This would be a good starting point. > what indices are or are not being used. I sure wish some more of the > mainframe tools would migrate down to the midrange in some form or another!
