I just would like to comment further on Joe's statement here. while this is true, most of the time they _shouldn't_ have to design the DB, since it most likely already exists for most companies (ie non-startup companies). The problem then is that they don't know how to interface with the existing data, or what all those "extra fields" in the file are for. So, they build their own. Now, instead of the IIS web programmer having to learn how to use the existing DB, the senior people are forced to mirror data from the existing DB into the sorry excuse for a DB created by the IIS programmer using SQLServer. I've seen it a thousand times, and every time I say "don't do it" they do and I'm end up trying to replicate to their db. Guess what, they really are missing a lot of important data (those "extra fields") because they don't understand the business or why they are there. Brad www.bvstools.com
