I'm starting to setup a network with only
IP Printers.

I assumed that the remoteQ method was the only one that
worked, as examples from Midrange computing seemed to show.
Using LPD/LPR methods. Ive setup HP4000 and Xerox allinone
HP Compatable using remoteQ and works fine.

Problem was remoteQ dont seem to support Port numbers i need
for other devices i have to print to ( seperate print server ).

I hadnt heard that it could be setup as Direct Printer devices.
( and they seem to support Port # as well !!)

Question is: - why use one or the other for printing to an
IP network based printer?

I'm on V4R5.

We have an IP network setup, for our remote printing... And we may have up
to 3 printers connected to a jet direct box, using ports 1 - 3...

We had our outq's setup in the config to handle each port by using 'raw1'
'raw2' or 'raw3' however, IBM has suggested that instead our using remote
writers from our outq's , that we should set up our printers as devices...
But when we do this, it doesn't handle the jet direct boxes correctly... I
was wondering if anyone knew how to set up these printers so I can tell it,
what port to use?

tia, tim
