Jim, No question that RPG and COBOL offer a lot of flexibility pertaining to database access and formatting output. And some query tools are limited. On the other hand, some PC based tools are quite robust. Foxpro, for example provides a WYSIWIG report designer, SQL view generator, and a robust programming language. If you combine them all together, Foxpro can produce just about any format you might imagine.
