I agree with Buck. The socket programming for this would be fairly trivial. In your case the AS/400 would be the client, and the Linux box would be the server. Writing socket clients is much easier than writing socket servers. It sounds like you've learned a little bit about the SMTP protocol by simply using the OS/400 telnet client to connect to port 25 and send messages. You could do the same thing with a simple socket program of your own, in batch. The more interesting challenge is formatting messages that originate from OS/400 users (or programs). You may need to learn something about the MIME formats used by SMTP, and if you want to attach files to the messages, you'll need to do some base64 encoding. Nathan. > Hi!
