Al,

I've been a fan of yours for quite a while - as a techie you can express
himself clearly and pungently you have few
peers.

This response is from the Navy wife I was for almost 20 years. I've lived with
the fear of losing my husband more than
once but it was always within a cocoon of families facing similar possibilities
- and for whom support structures were
in place. When tragedy did happen, each of us had something we knew we could do
for the others - immediately and for
the weeks and months after.

I ache for those families who are facing their loss today, and for all of you
who are part of that community. I can
only offer my prayers that each of you finds a way to cope with the series of
bleak todays so that there will be
tomorrows filled once again with hope and promise.

The kids will help it happen - and with a kind of blunt honesty that only
children who alternately believe in the tooth
fairy and who cannot grasp abstract concepts.
