Error message subfile in a DDS window? -- MIDRANGE-L

My brain seems to be stuck in first gear: I can't make an error message
subfile (not an ERRSFL) work in a DDS window.  They work exactly right in my
80- and 132-column applications.

I'm using default locations for the window; sometimes it's a subfile window
and other times it's a regular panel.  I'd be very grateful for an e-mailed
working example before I wear down my last nerve...
