Hi all, I opened a thread two or three weeks ago on this subject, I made a little progress at the time, but never actually got it going, however ... I have been convinced for a while now that despite the test of SOCKS saying 'Your socks configuration works', in practice it did not. A colleague suggested to me this morning that I could try a normal dial-up connection to an ISP - bypassing our company firewall. I use a laptop PC with an ethernet network card and an internal modem, I use MS Win98. a) I logged onto the network in the usual way, giving me telnet access to the AS/400. b) I created a new connection in 'Dial-up Networking' for the ISP (I used a personal account for the test). c) I connected to the ISP using the new connection. d) I temporarily disconnected my network connection. e) I fired up IEXPLORE and logged onto http://www.as400service.ibm.com f) I reconnected my network cable g) I now had an internet connection via my modem, and a telnet connection available to my AS/400. h) I now went through the usual links and procedures, and blow me down - it worked. The IBM procedures for the Socks config/setup mention two IP-ports 9600 and 9601, but when I got the iPTF system working I checked with Netstat, Work with TCP connection status, and it didn't touch these ports. What is worse, I shut it down and did another test, and it used different ports again! I don't claim to understand all about this, but it certainly does not seem to work as published. I hope my experiences can help some of you.
