Interesting idea, but I could never expect my users to put up with the bare telnet client for any period of time. The problem is intermittent, and seems to affect any given PC at random, so it could be weeks before a particular machine gets hit. I've gone ahead and changed the keep-alive parameter of the telnet server to 30 minutes. We'll run with that for a few days and see if it makes any difference.
