You have a number of options.

Assuming that the program is RPG, your best bet is to do it from RPG (III
of IV). QCMDEXC is likely the worst option.

RPG (III and IV) supports IN and OUT op codes for updating data areas. I
am told (via this list a few weeks ago) that COBOL does the same.

If this does not work, having the HLL program transition from whatever to
CL in a bound program is likely the next best thing.

Aside fro ILE, a call to a CLP would be the next best.

The worst, would be a call to QCMDEXC.

Hey all,
If I wanted to interrupt a HLL program to have it change a *DTAARA, would
it be
more efficient to use the QCMDEXC call and send the CHGDTAARA command ?
(or)
Would it be better if I wrote a small CLP that does the CHGDTAARA command ?
Thanks!
Tim Truax :-)
