Joe, we are approaching this problem from different angles but with the
same goal of course. The issue with WebETK is not that programs have to
generated with ETK. The issue is that the programs have to be written to
a uniform screen API. They don't have to be generated by ETK. The
important thing is that the screen has to be formally described in some
way and that the formal description can be turned into HTML automatically.
The screen description could be an ETK screen,.a DDS screen, a 5250
data stream, an XML description, etc. Once you have a formal description,
the transformation to HTML becomes possible.

So we don't have a competition here. It is not a problem of which is better,
just that we both do it, but in different ways. Since you mentioned that
your system allows the program to still run as a green screen application,
I have to say that in my system, the program can run as green screen, a
Windows GUI, and with HTML all at the same time (user A sees green screen,
user B sees GUI, and C works through the browser). No recompilation
is even needed. And it will run unchanged on any platform (with a COBOL
compiler).

This magic, yours and mine, is possible because a formal screen description
exists. Now, there are platforms that don't have this. The typical example is
a PC where the programs poke bits into the display buffer.
