Is 'X' a lower authority than read?  For instance, to read a file in the
ifs, you have to have execute authority for the entire directory hierarchy.
Does execute mean you can't do anything with anything in the directores
(assuming you have no specific authority to any of the directory contents
and public authority is *exclude)
