It was never done with hardware. The original server models were counterparts to traditional AS/400's. For example the 530 and 53S were essentially the same machine. As a server model interactive was suppressed somehow through governors in OS/400. I can't say whether they had formally implemented CFINT at that time or whether the OS just sensed hardware or model information (or panel color) and interactive jobs were suppressed through hard code. Interactive feature came about as folks bought the original server models and demanded some degree of interactive processing without buying a traditional model. The first server models were offered as an alternative to traditional models. Later traditional models were eliminated and every model was a server model with options for interactive feature cards. I suspect, like Stefan Tageson, that CFINT was implemented with the interactive feature cards and V4R1. -Jim James Damato Manager - Technical Administration Dollar General Corporation <mailto:jdamato@dollargeneral.com> -----Original Message----- From: Pat Barber [mailto:mboceanside@worldnet.att.net] Sent: Wednesday, August 15, 2001 12:52 PM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: Re: When did CFINT begin It came about slowly actually... When the first "server" boxes came out back in the dark days.... It didn't really hit home until the 7XX boxes came out and IBM decided that interactive was a "bad" thing that required more money to make it a "good" thing.... I suspect as others do, that CFINT has been around in other forms for a very long time...... The 9402-20S is the first "server" model that I recall seeing and I suspect, it had CFINT somewhere in there. This "might" have been done with hardware rather than software at that point.(1994-1995)...
