Ron,

A simple way is to determine how much data you can afford to lose. If it is
four hours, then run the following process every four hours. If it is one
day, then run it at least once a day.

1. CHGJRN libname/journalname *GEN to create a new journal receiver
2. SAVOBJ to save the journal receivers.
3. DLTJRNRCV to delete the journal receivers (except for the most current
one). Note that if you try to delete an attached journal or one that has
not been saved the system will give you an error message. But be careful -
the message you get when deleting a receiver that hasn't been saved yet can
be responded to with "I" and will then delete the receiver.

You will also need a system to log where the journals are saved to so that
you can locate them if you need to recover. Basically recovery is to
restore your database, restore all journal receivers since the last full
save of the database, and apply the journals. This is extremely
simplified - be sure to read up on this before attempting it. There is
detailed info in the OS/400 Backup & Recovery manual.

Chuck
