I looked into these API's a year or two ago (wanting to incorporate user
functions into the application security code) but gave up on them.

I think to use them you have to first register the product with the system.
I couldn't figure out exactly how to do this (some problem with the product
id parameter if I remember right) and was a little hesitant to screw
something up in this area. Plus, I think this would then mean that we would
have to change our install process, maintenance process, and who knows what
else.
