Were you talking about using an IBM command built from one release and using that same object on a later release? Using your example, couldn't you just use RTVCMDSRC on the V5R1 CRTRPGPGM command? Caution, RTVCMDSRC is a great utility, but it doesn't do a perfect job. New command parameter types are added in each release (yes - still!!!), and RTVCMDSRC doesn't always get the updates.
