ΠHello Peter, You wrote: >Therefore, what we need is a way to start the receiving program from the >mainframe, if and when information is available. Trying to remember what was available at VRM320 is taxing my tiny brain but here goes: VRM320 did not have RUNRMTCMD so using the remote command execution of TCP is not available however you may be able to use the FTP QUOTE command to issue a mainframe program start request, kick of some JCL, or whatever. You might also be able to use the SBMNETJOB command to start something on the mainframe. Failing that, if you have the the Communications Utilities program product 5763-CM1 installed (or can install it from your product tapes -- although that may be a chargeable component -- it certainly was at one point) then you can use the SBMRJEJOB or SNDRJECMD to send a job request to the mainframe. I don't think you need anything special installed on the mainframe but you will need to configure the appropriate communications devices. See the RJE Guide for more details. Failing that you could probably configure SNA devices to issue a program start request on the mainframe when varied on but I can't remember enough of that anymore. Last resort is to write a CPI-C or sockets program that could initiate the program start request. See the CPI Communications Reference or the Sockets Programming manual for more details.
