Folks,

IMHO, I think that you are all missing the real point.

First of all, IBM did not create the AS/400 for the midrange community.
Unless you happen to work for a Fortune 100 company, then, yes, it was
created for you. As a departmental server.

The iSeries was created for the mass market to compete. The interactive
governor was installed to garner as much money as possible from the
Fortune 100 companies that the machine was created for. They can afford
it.

IBM has them by the short and curlys. So IBM sends them the message: Go
ahead and divert $2M+ worth of man hours to avoid the governor and delay
any other cost reducing or income increasing projects that you may have
had in mind. I dare you. We all know the historical failure rate of
client/server, but what the heck. We make servers, Wintel makes
clients. Get used to it. Pay the labor cost or pay the governor.
Either way, you pay.

We, the low life, that have grown to benefit and love the AS/400
architecture are mere plant compactly fulfillment to reduce the cost the
the Fortune 100. Our collective voices are just a mere whisper.
Engaging in a self gratifying chest pounding at best.

With apologies to Bob Dylan, the times they are a changing. ;)
