Well, even at the lowest end of the scale, the cost between a machine with zero and non-zero CPW is considerable. Compare the prices between various server models to determine that value. In most cases, you're over $100K right there. If that's not enough, then add the intangible benefits of a web-based interface or the n-tier client/server design. If you don't need a web-based interface and aren't planning a move to client/server, and the amount of money you save on hardware is not enough to justify the conversion, then my technique (or any webfacing technique) doesn't make sense. One thing you have to add is the cost of about 1GB of memory (I think that's about $4000) in order to facilitate the servlet engine, if you're not already using the JVM. Java is memory intensive.
