Anyone with knowledge of as400 dbcs support vs unicode on the unix and
windows platforms.

Is the dbcs, code page support of the as400 anything like unicode?

Are they compatible?

Is as400 dbcs compatible with other platforms?

When sending an email msg from the as400 or posting a web page, what
encoding method is best to use?

I see that the unicode used in windows is just 1 version of unicode. The
windows version is 2 bytes per char. But since even 2 bytes is not enough to
represent every char in every language in the world, another version has 4
bytes. Since this wastes a lot of space, other versions provide a varying
nbr of bytes per char. The issue does not look like it has been resolved.

The primary question though is dbcs support of the as400. Is it a dead end?

Thanks,

Steve Richter
