  • Subject: 5219/3812 *M36/iSeries outq issue
  • From: "Jerome Draper" <jdraper@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

I have a case were an app is running as an *M36 guest and a printer (P9) is
configured to print directly to an AS400 outq (wrkm36cfg) which bypasses the
S36 spooler. This works fine for common reports.

(FYI: I have P9 set to be a 5219 printer (I tried a 5224 and a 5219 but it
didn't work either.)

Of course the one important report the boss needs and the reason for this
project is special. It has a FORMS stmt is the S36 OCL that changes the CPI
to 15 (only 10 and 15 are allowed). When the report lands in the AS400 outq
it is has a CPI of 10 and a page width of 160 which makes for an illegal
paper size for a 3812 laser printer.

Oh woe! We can never print the report as we get an error message:

 Message ID . . . . . . : CPA3388
 Date sent . . . . . . : 07/19/01 Time sent . . . . . . :
13:06:34

Message . . . . : Attributes of file ORDER not supported for device
   RWFF01P1. (C G T H I)

 Cause . . . . . : Writer RWFF01P1 found attributes of file ORDER number 2
job 159148/QUSER/QNURHMED on output queue RWFF01P1 in library QUSRSYS
that
are not supported for device RWFF01P1. The error code, or codes, are 1.
The
error codes and their meaning are as follows:
1 - Page size of file not supported on device.
2 - Device type of file not supported on device.
3 - Lines per inch (LPI) of file not supported on device.
4 - Special device requirements of file not supported on device.
Recovery . . . : Enter C to cancel the writer and G or T to process the
file.
If G is entered, the results may not be what is expected because the print
lines can be folded and the file will be printed with the page size and the
attributes from file QPSPLPRT in library QSYS.
If T is entered, the results may not be what is expected because the print
lines can be truncated and the file will be printed with the page size and
the attributes from file QPSPLPRT in library QSYS.
Both G and T may cause the actual number of pages produced by the writer
to be more than the original number of spooled pages.
Enter H to hold file ORDER on the output queue and produce the next file.
Enter I to ignore that attributes of file ORDER are not supported for
device RWFF01P1 and proceed as if they were supported.
Possible choices for replying to message . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :
  C -- Cancel writer
G -- Process file on device
H -- Hold file and process next file
T -- Process file with print lines truncated
I -- Ignore that attributes are not supported.
Technical description . . . . . . . . : When the G or T reply is taken,
the
writer will use significantly more processing unit resources to reformat
the
spooled output file. The extra processing unit usage can adversely affect
  other jobs in the system.

Help!
