Carl, I may be dismembering this, but I think Win9x still does honor the LASTDRIVE directive. Seems to me it goes in CONFIG.SYS - I'd try an experiment and see what happens. (I'd try it for you on this beast, if I had a network to connect it to. My ThinkPad is getting lonely, running stand-alone with nothing but a dialup to the Internet for company...)
