Philip, I wouldn't exclude "comments, white space,blank lines, and all other non-functional sections" They do at least improve readability & the comments sometimes give you a clue as to what the original coder thought they were doing - formulae etc. Although a friend of mine was lucky enough to have the initials ME, which really helped when she was required to initial any mods. On the other hand; maybe they want to buy a compression tool for online source code & don't know yet if it's worth their while ? What about DDS & compressed *pgm objects? I would count them as source code ? I would have started off with a dspobjd to obtain a list of source files, but realised that which an object may have a distinct PF-SRC attribute in PDM, a dspobjd gives a type of *FILE & a truncated attribute of PF.
