Arlene, Marty

Boy was I glad to see these two posts!

I almost passed on the link, Arlene, because I'd visited that page just a
few weeks ago. But they've completely redone the page. Redesigned the
layout real perty. Added many more focus areas. Given more explanation of
what they're looking to accomplish. That is one nice web page!

But I skimmed over the thing too quick, and missed the part about the
InfoCenter. In fact, I was getting ready to post a rant on how the
InfoCenter was conspicuous in it's absence, when I saw your post, Marty.

I signed up for this area, because I really believe that the constructive
criticism they need to hear is "This thing sucks. Give me the old Softcopy
Library." I heard that the focus of the InfoCenter project lead was mainly
"how do you force people to use it". Unfortunately, I didn't need to be
told that. IMHO, that reflected pretty clearly in the quality and utility
of the InfoCenter.

I also signed up for the focus area called "Doing business with IBM" which
says "This effort takes a look at how well we as a company are doing when
dealing with people such as yourself." I believe this is a new area for the
UCD. I wonder if anyone on this list has any opinions on this subject? ;)

Now I'm not exactly sure what I signed up to do... But I'll just have to
wait and see what, if anything, comes of it.

On the iSeries UCD home page they say "We cannot do this alone, we need your
help. Only you can provide the insight we need to make our offerings truly
useful and usable." This statement says a lot of things, but one is that
there can be no doubt a lot of folks in Rochester sure try hard and really
do "get it"...:)

I see one of the focus areas is Information Retrievability, which includes
Information Center. I signed up for that one. I hope to be able to provide
them with some constructive criticism (beyond "This thing sucks. Give me the
old Softcopy Library.") I encourage others who have had problems with Info
Center to do the same.
