Is this really possible? We looked at Shark and (shudder) EMC a couple times in the past year and a half and were disappointed in the limitations for the AS/400. I did not actually see the iSeries V5R1 announcement, but the first wave of press suggested that the iSeries would not be ready for SAN solutions for a while. They said that the Fibre attachment provided technical direction, but that single-level storage issues would make it tough for IBM to integrate an iSeries server into a SAN. Did anyone pay attention to this during the announcement? What did they say? I'm also curious as to why you chose "cheap SAN disks" as a subject. We've priced them all, and they ain't cheap. We've been messing with SAN technology for our Unix and NT servers for just over a year now. -Jim James Damato Manager - Technical Administration Dollar General Corporation <mailto:jdamato@dollargeneral.com> -----Original Message----- From: Charly Jones [mailto:charly301@hotmail.com] Sent: Monday, June 18, 2001 12:30 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: cheap SAN disks? I am looking into possibly using the IBM Enterprise Storage Servers for a large iSeries installation. V5R1 and Fibre attachment appears to make this a resonable thing to do. Does anyone on this list have any experience with this technology? Any good news? Anything to look out for? Is there anyone that is actually planning to use storage area network disks? I am interested in your info, on this list or off...
