MS Word has reveal codes. Click Tools/Options and make check what you want to see. -----Original Message----- From: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-midrange-l@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Jim Damato Sent: Thursday, June 07, 2001 4:10 PM To: 'MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com' Subject: RE: Waxing nostalgic and way off topic (was: Another mailing list idea) The death of WordPerfect can be attributed to two things: 1) Microsoft's dubious practice of holding back useful Windows development information from competitive software vendors. It was never proven, but both WordPerfect and Lotus 123 claim to have been unable to develop using the same hooks that Microsoft had for Word and Excel. 2) Bloatware. Spreadsheets and Word Processors were all but perfected years ago. There's been no reason to come up with major releases to these products. The second or third WordPerfect for Windows release was so fat and slow that it was unbearable to run. The average user didn't need a desktop publishing application -- they just needed to type reports and memos. Reveal codes was a real "programmer's feature". If you couldn't figure out why the document was layed out wrong you just looked at the codes that were behind the formatting. At least once a week I find a reason to wish it was in @#$%! Word. If you miss WordPerfect's blue screen don't worry. Windows has one of its own. -Jim -----Original Message----- From: Carl Galgano [mailto:cgalgano2@ediconsulting.com] Sent: Thursday, June 07, 2001 3:47 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: RE: Another mailing list idea Reveal codes was cool and I did miss it when I went to Word. But I had actually forgotten about it now until you mentioned it. But Wordperfect messed up the first Windows version so bad. Sometimes I still crave my only blank blue screen of WP 5.1. That software got me through grad school. cjg Carl J.
