Anyone want to take bets on whether this thread dies down before we start
getting misty-eyed over Timex-Sinclair ZX81's and TS1000's?

R. Bruce,

But they didn't call it that then. I didn't work on the 5100, but I did
have to
do an order entry system on a 5110. In fact, this was for a customer who
ran a
S/1 at corporate, and put 5110's at branch offices with Bi-sync nightly
batches
for exchanging inventory and order data, etc.

The 51xx really put the "basic" in the basic language. Although it had ISAM
builtin, character variables were limited to *one* letter followed by the $,
and
numeric variables were limited to one letter and an optional single digit.

Made mneumonic variables names fun. I ended up using arrays for all kinds
of
stuff just to get more than 26 variables.
