There is a program call 'sndm' @ http://homepage1.nifty.com/uzaemon/index.html
it may help you on your quest to send e-mail from the as/400....
It allows you the send e-mail with attachments(from the ifs)
if you write your cl's to monitor error messages you could then use the sndm to e-mail them to whom ever.

Chris,
Are you using a package to accomplish this? If not, are you willing and able
to share the code, if it is shareable?
We do not have any email capabilities set up on our AS/400s currently. The
*only* thing that I want to do with email on the 400 is to send certain
messages. I've been told that this isn't all that hard to do, but am clueless
on how to set up the 400 so that it can send email out to the internet. SMTP
is an acronym that sticks in my brain as it relates to sending email, but
other than that, I have no clue.
Our ability to connect to the outside world from the AS/400s appears to be
limited. In trying out Scott Klement's FTPAPI utility, the FTP.FREEBSD.???
name could not be resolved from the 400, but I was able to connect to it from
my PC. I assume the same connectivity issue will be problematic for sending
email from the 400? We have network guys in-house. What should I be asking
them as far as connectivity to the internet world?

This is possible way off, but what I do for my operators, is I have a program
the monitors Qsysopr and if the message meets certain requirements, It then
sends a email to the operators PC. This way if it is a operations issue they
will get it and if it is a security issue the secrity dude gets it. This
way none of them even have to be logged in. But they must have there mail
client notifier up and running.
