In my experience, I found separating the DASD into different APSs (I actually only had two) had performance benefits. Years ago, we had the 'old disk/new disk' game, and the old stuff (leased, and REAL cheap) was also REAL slow. I separated the DASD into an 'old disk' ASP and a 'new disk' ASP. Then we put archival libaries and seldom accessed data on the 'old disk' ASP, leaving the 'new disk' ASP for our interactive and daily process files. The business was retail, and all this grief really did not matter until the Holiday Season. Then it was critical. And it worked, although we will never know, as there were no benchmarks, cet par.
