At our monthly meeting in Fort Wayne we talked to a college professor, who
also attended a meeting. We discussed Partners In Education and many other
topics before and after the meeting. This is a memo from one of the board
members who also talked with the gentleman.

Dear AS/400 and iSeries owners,
During our last STATUS board meeting on Tuesday May 8 th , we had the
opportunity to present our annual scholarships to two local students. Our
topic for the night was the new iSeries V5R1 announcements presented by
Joel Neidermann from IBM Indianapolis.

One of our scholarship recipients was Sandi McCleary from IPFW.
Accompanying her was Professor Robert Sedlmeyer who teaches
Information Systems topics at the local campus. Professor Sedlmeyer was
surprised at the number of local companies who run their business on the
iSeries 400 as well as the advanced technology available on the platform
such as JAVA and WEBSPHERE. He did not know there was a demand for
RPG programmers in the marketplace and expressed an interest in teaching
some classes in all three topics. After interviewing a couple of the local
businesses at the STATUS meeting, he found out that there is QUITE a
demand for RPG, WEBSPHERE, and JAVA courses and skills.
Professor Sedlmeyer requested a membership list of STATUS for review.
We of the Board of STATUS voted on this and will provide him that
information. However, I think in the age of the Internet, it would be just
as
appropriate if heads of the IS Departments in the surrounding area were to
drop a quick e-mail to express the demand in the marketplace for RPG,
WEBSPHERE, and JAVA on the iSeries 400. When is the last time anybody
can remember having Jr. Programmers?
This letter is going out to the members of STATUS via e-mail. It would be
nice if this letter could be passed along to companies in the surrounding
area
for action also. Please have the manager of your IS Department drop
Professor Sedlmeyer a quick e-mail expressing their needs to
sedlmeyer@ipfw.edu
and let's bring some iSeries education back into the community!
Thanks in advance!
