I am not familiar with this product, but several other dev tools. My questions would be: is this for new development or to support a package purchased? how important is the multi-platform capability? if this is an existing 400 shop, how different will the new screen interface be? (what I have seen is the inability of some tools to duplicate or blend in with existing screen standards) Is batch processing an afterthought? Is there a run-time and what performance hit is there? Simple screens are easy. Take an existing app - complex, like order entry. Get them to at least talk thru & show how complex screens & complex edits work (like having to edit the totals of a subfile BEFORE updating any records from the subfile (if the tool can even simulate subfiles). Are you limited as to where you can insert code, like before, during, after screen load. Training curve to be truly productive? Are they telling you non-programmers can do this (people who know nothing about database design, or how to structure a complex program? Don't get me wrong - I have used dev tools for 11 years and do believe, in the right situation, they can be very good. There are right & wrong situations to use them. jim ----- Original Message ----- From: <Larryt222@aol.com> To: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> Sent: Sunday, May 13, 2001 12:32 PM Subject: Progress/400 > Anyone familiar with this product? > > Pros, cons? > > Thanks, > > Larry > +--- > | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! > | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. > | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. > | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. > | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com > +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
