Simone, We ran into this challenge in our Application Monitor product. One thing you can try doing is to do a CPYF command on the DDM file and monitor the lower level messages for DDM and communications errors. In our monitor product we wrote a module that actually opens the file and attempts to read a record. If you have the right exception handlers in place you can trap DDM errors.
