You have multiple questions in there.  Let me answer one, tangentially.
With OS/400 you can partition multiple servers on one AS/400.  With V5R1
this partitioning got even better.  Along with the other enhancements you
can now run Linux on a partition.

Again another tangential answer.  (Caveat: I know next to nothing about
Unix).  Many popular commands can be run under the qshell interpreter.  To
initiate this command use QSH.

I suspect (Caveat:  Wild A** Guess) that there are some underlying
differences in the hardware.  After all, if IBM can put a processor upgrade
on our machine by replacing a card just the size of a business card, (and
just as thin), then surely they have something in there to prevent you from
purchasing a RS/6000 and then loading OS/400 on it.

Hello  All,
Is it possible to install Unix OS into  AS/400? (I don't mean clustering
and without OS/400)
I have  heard that AS/400 and RS/6000 are the same machine, both are "Made
in  Rochester". Difference is OS. Is that true?
