From Al Macintyre In my opinion this is heavily dependent on how the application software is written. We are using BPCS which uses NEITHER the System Value method or the User Profile Method, for access to the application library list. Instead, when someone signs on, they first get a PROGRAM which is called BPCSMENU which calls for the library list from a data structure & job description. We have a LIVE data base and a TEST environment. They use 90% same software - only difference being some software upgrades & whatever is being tested & of course the libraries that contain the data files. The way we manage user access is ... example AL JERRY MIKE normal sign-on gets us to LIVE ALE JERRYE MIKEE sign on with "E" at end of our user-id gets us to the EDUCATION & TESTING User profile exclusive contribution to this is WHICH library of BPCSMENU is the starting point. Thus the System Values supply stuff like QGPL QTEMP - very little standard access, while the BPCSMENU CL program supplies what's relevant to the application environment. Again, what makes sense is very much dependent on the rules of your application software. > From: echabot@marlinfirearms.com (Ed Chabot) > > Hello All, > I have a question on "best practices" for setting user library list entries. > We have acquired another company and are moving them onto our 720.
