Sudha, 
I believe that you can only set the null value for a database field.  Making
a copy in a data structure will not work.  The field must directly come from
a database file.  If I remember properly, it must be an update capable
database file.  This is a huge limitation, and if I knew who to write at
IBM, I would complain bitterly.  I got extremely frustrated the last time I
tried to use null capable fields with embedded SQL.

As for another way, I have not personally tried, but perhaps SQL CLI will
allow you to set the null value.
