Could perhaps be a logical path problem? Is this a logical file you are running the SQL against? I had one situation that happened one time, where I had a physical and logical in one library, copied them to another library for testing, but for some strange reason the new logical in the new library was still pointing to the old physical. I had to log off and back on for it to point to the "right" library. My application was probably somehow still using the old logical (one of those access path things, I dunno).
