mike,

you could bring up the 5394 in config mode ( switch on the back ), press
something like Alt-test at an attached terminal. This should show the config
grid of attached devices.

also, make sure the  5224 printer shows "varied on" instead of "vary on
pending" when you WrkCfgSts *ctl xxx.
