> > You know IBM's infinite wisdom on what is of value > to us. > What is of value to **IBM**. They want us all to use WebSphere and nothing but WebSphere (note the JDE agreement to use WebSphere). They think that by facilitating cgi we won't adopt WebSphere. But what the MGMs fail to realize is they're going to lose sales to non ibm servers and app servers like BEA Weblogic (whose already in the lead). They're toying with the loyalty of both the end customer who uses the products and the consultants and bp's who sell to the end user. It's nice to host easy400 somewhere (I am very disappointed that it is offline) but it would be short sighted to (as much as I hate to concede Joe Pluta's point!) to develop something that IBM refuses to support (that's worse than IBM merely looking the other way.) I don't understand how they think a loyal as/400 customer would buy websphere just because he is an as/400 customer, though. And, once they have an application that uses a j2ee app server, why do they think the customers will stay with db2/400? As great as it is, it's too expensive if it's all it offers you. How many as/400 sales are tied to the primary application purchased by the company? 100%? Free those bonds and you'll probably find the customers (end customers who actually pay the bills) weren't loyal - they were captive. Yes, I would like to have heard that marketing pitch.
