Oh, yeah, that was the other reason why I maintain my message file from within a CL program. Second-level text allows for up to 3000 characters, but the command prompt allows only up to 512. Not too often I have to go there, but when I do, you can't prompt to change such a message. Well, you can, but you lose everything in the prompter after 512 characters. Dan Bale IT - AS/400 Handleman Company 248-362-4400 Ext. 4952 -------------------------- Original Message -------------------------- You mailed; Am I the only one who has, many times, lamented the fact that IBM failed to open up the second-level text for these two message IDs? Nope, you're not the only one. and why is it so difficult to edit a long second-level text string ? I find it's safer to copy the message first as a backup, & merge it back in if I end up truncating the original. Maybe there's a connection there - they want msgs kept short & simple ?
