  • Subject: 400 as Secondary DNS server to a Primary on a Win2000 box ?
  • From: "Neil Palmer" <neilp@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Has anyone successfully set up a 400 to act as a secondary DNS server (no
root servers defined as the secondary is behind a firewall - just the
primary DNS defined as master server) to a primary DNS server running on
Win2000, without getting:

DNS0086 Secondary zone dnstest.com has expired.
Cause . . . . . : The data of secondary zone dnstest.com is no longer
reliable because the DNS server of secondary zone dnstest.com could not
contact the primary DNS server for 86400 seconds. Since the data is no
longer reliable, the DNS server of secondary zone dpslink.com no longer
gives out answers about the data. Technical description . . . . . . . . :
The expire time of 86400 seconds is configured in the zone configuration
file.

after the expiration time configured in the zone configuration file has
been reached, and the QTOBXFER jobs all start failing with:

DNS0074 Diagnostic 10 03/17/01 23:06:36 QTOBCUTL
QDNS *STMT *EXT
From module . . . . . . . . :SYSLOG
From procedure . . . . . . : as400_log__FPCcPcT2e
Statement . . . . . . . . . : 67
Message . . . . : Record from address 10.100.44.13, zone dnstest.com,
too short.
Cause . . . . . : There is a required length for the records received
from the network. The record received is not long enough. Recovery . . .
: No immediate action required. If the problem continues, contact the
technical support person for the remote DNS server.
Technical description . . . . . . . . : The record did not contain
enough data in the header field. The expected size of the header is 12
bytes.
