Fair enough, but we are talking about RPG programs here for the most part.
Also, even if they are stateful, they are static. That is there is only one
instance of them per job.

no, no, Walden, most programs on the AS/400 have state. It is only programs
(like RPG-programs) that explicitly deactivate themselves that lose their
state.
