Hi Chuck, I used to have a Palm III device and now I have a Casio E125 with a 5250 emulator on it, both times I have connected through a dial up into a RAS server on our LAN. Both are OK for real basic stuff such as checking on the system at w/e's and the like but you wouldn't want to be doing to much work from one of them, main reason is they are so slow but thats more because of the connnection type, also you have to scroll around alot of the time because of the screen size which can be a bit of a pain. I know you can get a Compact Flash II modem card for the Casio (not sure about the palm's anymore) which would probably give you better response/wait times than the mobile option. Try MochaSoft for the emulator.
