Problem #1 -After upgrading to V4R5 we notice more telnet device
disconnects. Perle controllers seem to be the most frequent. I am assuming
that the faster OS is handling device issues much faster and "bringing to
light" hidden and existing weak or poorly designed networking device
settings and/or inappropriate TCP settings on the host. Is this about right?

Problem #2 - I also noticed that TCP connections from outside of the
firewall time out depending on connection product, my telnet client choice,
and host being accessed.

Using standard port 23 non SSL connections.
for terminal sessions the message is standard "Session stopped by a request
from device"
for printer sessions "50 - The job ended while the job was active."

This action by the system is predictable and the timer that is doing this is
set at around 19 minutes.

I can set a non-IBM telnet client software to send timing packets that keeps
the connection alive. I t is not well documented if at all in client access.
I don't really want to explain how to do this over the phone to a user.
Also, I am really not sure that client settings is the best fix, nor is
generating extra network traffic. Also, there are many versions of windows
and clients in the field.

Any ideas on what AS/400 setting will fix this, and since I am using
defaults on most AS/400 systems and clients, why is this a problem not well
documented (I have looked) or rather, why me?
