Good Call. >>> Jon.Paris@hal.it 02/02/01 11:00AM >>> >> M$ does have an enviable (?) track record in this area. Not in all cases. For example they tried to ignore the web (Bill didn't think it would amount to much) and had to scramble to recover. There have been other examples (MS Bob anyone?) where they thought that they would lead in a particular technology but found that nobody wanted it. MS money is another example. MS trying to "Kill" Java has nothing to do with the technical merits of the language - it has everything to do with retaining MS dominance on the desktop. They failed in their attempts to "bend" Java so that it was still reliant on the MS desktop, so they have packed up their toys and gone home to sulk. MS will only succeed in killing Java if all the other players fight among themselves. Personally I'd love for Java to succeed to the extent that MS finish up having to buy some company or other in order to reenter the Java business. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
