What had been reported on this list (I think) as well as other places
was the MS tried to replace all their AS/400s with Windows NT systems (a
large number of them).  And that it failed.  And that MS then outsourced
the stuff to a 3rd party that was running on AS/400s.  Therefore MS
could claim that it no longer owned any AS/400s.

I do _not_ know if the above is true.  I _do _ know I have seen it
posted more than once.
